Founded in July 1960, Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the four earliest built TCM clinical centers in China. It was awarded as National Civilized Unit, exemplary national model TCM hospital, distinguished professor appointment unit in the ministry of education Yangtze river scholars program and National Traditional Chinese Medicine Transmission Innovation Center. It is the only national TCM clinical research base in China that undertakes research on 2 diseases. It was accredited as an academic medical center hospital by joint commission international. It is also one of the first founders of tutorial TCM National Medical Center. It was awarded the National Health System Advanced Collectives and Shanghai May 1st Labor Certificate. It has continuously been entitled as Shanghai Civilization Unit for 15 times. In 2012, during the re-evaluation of TCM hospital ranking, Longhua Hospital took the first place among all III grade level A hospitals of China. The hospital has been dedicated to the development of TCM and is known as nationwide for outstanding patient care provided by its physicians and staff. With the distinguishing feature and prominent advantage of TCM, Longhua Hospital serves as a famous Traditional Chinese Medical center that combines health care, education, and scientific research. It is categorized as Shanghai grade III level A hospital. Dr Jiaxiang Liu and Qi Shi were honored as National TCM Masters.

     The head hospital is located in No.725 South Wanping Road, Xuhui district of Shanghai, and its branch is located in No.45 Shangnan Road, Shanggang NO.2 community, Pudong district of Shanghai. The new campus is being built at the intersection of Hangdu Road and Hangsan Road. All the campuses cover an area of 189.93 mu and 1750 hospital beds.

       The outpatient is over 4.15 million and the number of discharged patients is around 63,000 annually. Currently Longhua Hospital has 3 state-level key disciplines and 9 key disciplines of State Administration of TCM, 3 Regional Center for Taditional Chinese Medicine of State Administration of TCM, 6 National clinical key specialties,  13 key specialties of State Administration of TCM, 8 Shanghai advantage specialties,  4 Shanghai clinical medical centers, 2 National TCM Masters, 54 supervisors of Academic Succession of Famed Experienced TCM Doctors, one chief scientist of National 973 program, 1 National Thousand People Plan, 3 Scholars of the Yangtze River, 1 chief scientist, 3 scholars and 3 young scholars of Qihuang, 46 Shanghai Famed TCM doctors, 2 Shanghai "thousand people plan", 3 Shanghai university distinguished professors (Oriental scholar) and 78 doctoral candidate supervisors, 51 studios of other level Famed TCM doctors.
